What Materials are Elevator Engine Made of?

Elevator Engine

The electric motor that helps an elevator to move is called an elevator engine. It is produced in different models and powers depending on factors such as speed, weight and distance that the elevator can carry. Today, elevators are one of the most basic machines needed in high-rise buildings. Elevators, which are responsible for transporting heavy loads and people to the desired floor, have a great place in our lives. Detailed information about the elevator engine is in the continuation of our article.

What Materials are Elevator Engine Made of?

The elevator engine produced is designed using various materials.

These materials are as follows;

  • Iron Iron material is used in the production of most of the elevator motors. Since iron is a magnetic material, it produces a magnetic field due to the current to be applied to the electromagnetic coils of the motor.
  • Aluminum: Some parts used in elevator motors, especially the motor body, are made of aluminum.
  • Aluminum is preferred because it is a durable and lightweight material.
  • Copper: Copper material is used for the windings of electromagnetic coils during elevator motor construction. Copper is preferred because it has a high conductivity and can efficiently conduct the current directly in the operation of the elevator.
  • Plastic: Especially when designing elevator motors, housings and covers are made using plastic material. Plastic is a lightweight material that can be easily shaped.
  • Steel: Gearbox and gear systems, which are important parts of the elevator motor, are designed from steel. Steel is frequently used in this sense because it is a high strength and durable material.

Elevators manufactured using these materials are among the ideal options for much more robust and long-term use.

Elevator Engine Operating Performance

The elevator engine, which enables the elevator to operate by converting electrical energy into mechanical energy, works based on the principles of electromagnetism and magnetism. The elevator engine is designed with electromagnetic coils to create a magnetic field. These electromagnetic coils are wound around iron cores, a completely magnetic material. When a current is applied to the coils, the magnetic current generated by the coils enables the elevator motor to operate.

Elevator Motor Types

Elevator motors are produced in many different types and designed to be used in different ways.

Some elevator motor types are as follows;

Alternating Current Elevator Motor

The alternating current elevator motor is commonly seen in smaller elevators that can be used in buildings, offices and homes.

Direct Current Elevator Motor

This type of motor, which is used in elevators to provide high efficiency and linearity, uses a commutator to change the magnetic field.

Hydraulic Elevator Motor

Using hydraulic fluid, this type of elevator motor applies hydraulic pressure to the cables to make the elevator work.

Pneumatic Elevator Motor

This type of motor, which works by using air pressure, allows the elevator to move thanks to the use of compressed air.

VVVF Elevator Motor

Used to control the direction, speed and braking characteristics of the elevator, the vvvvf elevator motor determines the elevator speed by adjusting the voltage and frequency of the magnetic field.

These types of elevator motors vary depending on their usage areas.

Importance of Elevator Motor

Elevator motors are vital for the efficient and safe operation of elevators. Elevators, one of the indispensable parts of modern buildings, help people travel comfortably in buildings.

Elevator Motor Maintenance

Regular maintenance of the elevator motor is important for the elevator to operate smoothly and for many years. Regular maintenance prevents the failure and deterioration of elevators.
